Shannon “focuses on the sensuality of the female form” and while the characters are not typically beautiful, they are wonderfully identifiable.  Her work is “calm, smooth and has a touch of quirkiness”. Her work reflects an intrigue with the human form “as a woman I admire womanly bodies and women of different cultures and backgrounds. I enjoy the natural and normal beauty we don’t often see in our visual culture”.

Her work aims to be a sensory feast and she confesses her inspiration is largely through the multitude of her senses.

“My visual sense is the strongest. I see people in terms of shadow, line, texture and light but I also combine my senses of smell and taste which I use to evoke the viewers’ senses in the colours and words used to title my work.”

In her development as an artist, she has explored Impressionism through to Expressionism. She now uses bold colours and wild movements, like the Fauvists, to create her semi abstract pieces.

With continual artistic development, Shannon has developed a style which is strong, distinctive and easily recognizable. She is a very motivated and disciplined artist. In 2003 her work and attitude was also noticed by a Property Development group (PH3) who contracted Shannon for a year to consult and provide artwork for their Perth and other International developments.
