Born in Melbourne in 1968, Kerrie Warren spent her childhood moving from place to place in Australia. From a young age she found herself writing poetry and drawing, understanding it now as ‘art therapy.’

At 16 Kerrie left school and entered the workforce, making her way into regional television. Her first encounter with formal art education came at the age of 25 when she decided to enrol in a full-time Diploma of Art in Ceramics. Studying ceramics introduced Kerrie to painting and she soon discovered abstract-expressionism and a fascination with spontaneous, instinctive mark making which inspired her to go on to complete a Diploma of Transpersonal Art Therapy at the Phoenix Institute in Melbourne.

“Abstract expressionism provides me with a direct link to self where I explore layers beneath the surface and work within the moment. Through gestural movement, gravity and paint, the ‘essence’ of these moments is captured and recorded on canvas and offered as a form of communication to others. The journey within continues with each piece and I move forward with the evolvement of my work”.

It is a joyful torment for Kerrie as the painting won’t let her go until it is finished. It demands her full attention until a climax is reached, the point where it resonates on its own and she is released from the process.

Kerrie has shown her work at solo and group exhibitions since 2004. She coordinated “Wild Dogs from Down Under” in 2007, a group of artists who toured with their works as part of a Cultural Exchange through Regional Galleries in Australia and JiuJiang, China.

In December 2008, Kerrie’s works were exhibited by Art Platform at the Guangzhou International Art Fair.
In 2009 Kerrie exhibited works in Chelsea New York and took part in a group exhibition at the Red Sea Gallery in Singapore; during that same year Kerrie produced a large series of work influenced by the Black Saturday Fires in Victoria which toured with ‘Fields of View’ through Regional Galleries in Victoria during 2010 and made a special presentation in Queen’s Hall Parliament House Melbourne.

In 2010 Kerrie was invited to exhibit with Trevisan International Art in Italy and was accepted as one of the ’10 x 4’ artists which showed at Artistry Galleries in Melbourne. 2011 continues to be just as exciting with works accepted in ‘Emergence’ at Federation Square Melbourne.

Private and corporate collections of Kerrie’s works hang across Australia, the UK, New York, China and Singapore.
